Abstract

Over the last few decades, especially in the recent contemporary age, the internet

has become a necessity and an integral part of our everyday lives. Anyone willing to

make an effort to use it properly, will without a doubt, enjoy it’s various benefits. It’s

commonly acceptable, the fact that the internet constitutes the most powerful source

of information, and one of its most useful and valuable tools is it’s ability to stay

constantly updated.

Object of the particular thesis project is the ascertainment made above. More

specifically, the thesis’ main purpose is to keep people up to date about the social

and cultural events that take place at a certain location/area, while also giving them

the opportunity to create an event like that themselves.

The present thesis relates to the design and implementation of an information

system for event management. The information system will consist of an online

application, properly designed, to work both on a PC screen and on devices with

smaller size screens. In detail, every visitor gets the chance to be informed about any

event that has been registered on the website. By signing in to the system the user

can get even more information on an event he may be interested in, and he is also

able to create an event himself and edit/process it once he’s done adding it to the

events’ list. Every event is consisted of all the necessary information needed in order

to promote it and accurately inform the user about it, such as the area/region of the

event, providing the user the ability to see through an online map the exact location

of the event, the date and time the event starts and ends, the category it’s classified

in, the town and the prefecture it’s taking place in, photos, a title, and a description

that represents it. There also is a “search event” function. This means that into the

website, the user takes the opportunity to search for events while filtering the options

he gets, like the town, the prefecture, the category and the date it takes place in.

Lastly, the user is able to, report any event that might include malicious content, add
