Abstract
In this thesis an integrated monitoring system has been developed for people with
Alzheimer’s disease (ΑD). This system consists of an embedded system, a website and an
android application.
The embedded system has the form of a follicular. It locates patient through the GSM
network, records heartbeats and monitors sleep. The received data is sent via Wi-Fi or GPRS
to a web server and are stored into a database.
The android application has been developed, having as purpose the promotion of
communication between caregivers and doctors. Basic functions are: recording patient’s
behavior, locating patient and informing caregivers about patient’s medication. Additionally,
caregivers can be informed about AD.
Last but not least, website is addressed to doctors by recording the personal details of
a patient, his medical history, the medication he receives, medical examinations, etc. The
platform affords assessment stages of the patient’s mental function.
The objective of the task of this diploma thesis is to help dealing with a disease which
is expensive and affects more and more people. The data derived from the system could be
used to obtain new knowledge, about the causes and factors that cause the disease. In this way
the device would help in patient’s protection, while offering much more effective treatment
against the disease.
